What is good for runny nose and nasal congestion probably due to allergies?
My mom developed a runny nose and nasal congestion in Dallas yesterday and took sudafed pe 3 times today. Every time she takes it she gets spacey and tired. What else could give her relief without this side effect?

Dayquil, Nyquil, I swear by it
Benadryl
Splash face with cool water and use the same to try & clear out the nasal passages. I’ve also found that wearing my shirt over my nose & mouth (or a surgical mask) helps to curb the symptoms.
Sea water!
valums zanex and beer
Benadryl, non-drowsy.
Call the pharmacist and tell them of the problem and they will refer you to a different medication.
I am from Texas also and suffer from allergies with somewhat the same symptoms as her. I take one claritin daily together with flonase. Flonase is a prescription drug that is fairly inexpensive. If she does not want the flonase, she should give the claritin a try. good luck.
Maybe non-drowsy Claritin may help. Also, gently try some warm salt water up the nose. Those baby snot suckers will do the job. It may sound weird, but that’s what my doctor told me.
can she drink booze? try a shot of whiskey with dinner every night. skip the sudafed. if no relief in a week, go see a doctor.
she’s tierd because sudafed pe is for at night. she should get sudafed am for during the day, then she wont be so tierd
I can’t take Sudafed for that reason. Nasonex works well, but is prescription. Try Halls. The next part of the congestion will be drainage and she will be coughing. Also, cough medicine (Walgreens brand) worked very well. I just asked the pharamcist what to get, she told me and I’ve been pretty happy with that.
Question for you. Do you live in Texas area or was she just visiting Dallas?
Maximum strength pain reflief sinus caplets- i think they’re tylenol
If you are looking for over the counter medicine you should use claritan in the day and at night, to help you sleep, benadril. If you want a perscription medication go see your doctor. Also another good one is nasonex.
Nasonex is the bestes nose spray. it clears up everything. And also, you can try Zyrtec. Both of those are prescription. But a good over the counter is sudafed or excedren (sp?)..or clariton. theres one that begins with a B…i forgot the name. But I hate it,…you get so drowsy! stay away from the B…something! no B’s!!
lol, good luck.
This is a little gross, but it works. A nurse told me about it. It’s not for the squeemish:
You take a rubber syringe, like what moms use to suck snot out of a baby’s nose. You fill a glass with warm salty water; mix up that salt thoroughly, so there are no undissolved salt crystals. Go to the bath tub, and hang your head upside down over the tub. Using the rubber syringe, gently pour the warm salty water into one nostril. If the nasil tissue isn’t too swolen, the salty water will flow into both sides of the sinuses. If the tissue is swolen, you may need to fill both nostrils. Fill up the sinuses in this way. Roll your head gently from side to side, making sure the water rinses the entire sinus area. It will feel a little uncomfortable, but it’s worth it. After 30-40 seconds, tilt your head upward and let the water run out. Then blow your nose.
If you do this two or three times a day, you’ll have no sinus problems, ever again.
go drink 17.4 cans of chicken soup. but be sure to crush up some altoids and put them in as well, that will stop the runny nose. your welcome lovey!
occiccilium… not sure how its spelled.. but its a god! it fixes any issues
Go to the local drug store and get her a box of Claritin D. It’s a little pricey, but it usually works well without causing drowsiness.
