Question by Darksuns: Has anyone tried an elemental diet for relief from severe food allergies? Was it worth it?
My doc has suggested an “elemental” diet for me to get relief from a disorder that is caused by severe food allergies. This stuff is the liquid “food” that they tube feed people in a coma. It just has what you need to survive in it, nothing else. It’s expensive and, obviously, extremely limiting. However, I’ll do pretty much anything to get relief. Anyone have experience with this stuff?

I started to feel really bad yesterday morning when I got up. My throat was hot,scratchy,it was sore and it felt like it was on fire! No matter what I ate or drank,that hot/scratchy sore throat feeling wouldn’t go away. Last night I started sneezing,and sneezing,and sneezing and all day today,I have been feeling miserable!

I am running about a 101 degree fever,I feel horrible,and my nose is so congested,I cannot get any relief from nasal spray,because everytime I try to take some nasal spray,I sneeze it right back out,and I am severly congested in BOTH of my nasal areas. It doesn’t help that I have to sleep with my mouth wide open because everytime I try to lay down,I can’t breathe!!

I have been itching and scratching like crazy for 3 days now and it appeared to happen overnight . I cannot tell what it came from, only thing I can think of is it happened a day or 2 after I went swimming in my complex pool and I also had a colpo that day.

does anyone know of any excellent anti itch creams, lotions, soaps etc that REALLY WORKS. I have hives, skin irritation, and I scratch until I bleed. I have tried benedryl allergy, calamine lotion, and wet jet hydrocortisol cream and nothing is really working. money is not an option for desperate relief, Please help!!!!

I’m a 40 female with a 17mo baby… this started 4 years ago with a scratched cornea… intermittent waking with burning, but now it’s BOTH eyes, severe burning/gravelly feeling in eyes waking me several times every night. I’ve been using saline and similisan dry eye or allergy eye relief along with homeopathic histamine…nothing seems to be helping and it’s getting worse. Not so much a problem during the day, just when I’m sleeping. I’m guessing it’s allergies OR dry eye, but I’m not sure anymore. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have no insurance so I can’t just go from dr. to dr. until this is resolved. I would prefer not to use prescription drugs, anyway, if possible. I would like to find the cause for this and let my body heal itself.
UPDATE: Thanks to you who offered suggestions, I will try washing the laundry in plain water and see if that helps. I already use allergy-free detergent, but you never know! I also saw my chiropractor today (I’m seeing him for a birth related injury) and he adjusted my atlas/axis. Said it can cause dry eye (among other things) if it’s out of adjustment. Here’s hoping it works!

I have spent thousands and have little relief.
I suffer from dizziness, (right now) my left side of my face is very swollen near my eye-think lacrimal gland area. The swelling runs horizontal near tear duct to lateral of cheek bone. My left eye waters and burns. it also seems like I feel a tickle or prickle on my left cheek area-once had a tick from some nerve . Weird.

I take allergy shots for dust and mold, get frequent sinus infections. Have had x-rays-nothing. Dr wants MORE x-rays-have awful insurance and I’m now broke because of my illness.
Also have ear problems-ringing, feels like it’s swollen deep in ear. Had hearing test-fine.
I’m so sick of this.

My seven year old cockerspaniel has had severe allergies since we brought her home at six weeks old. She bites and licks her paws which are red and swollen, has an itchy butt, red inflamed ears, and slides her belly on the carpet until raw. I have tried just about everything from Benydril to a Vet Dermatologist. I’ve changed her food and even tried the RAW diet This constant itching is driving us crazy. My husband says the best thing would be to put her down, but I don’t have the heart. Is there any miracle cure out there I don’t know about? Please help.

I’m 17 and for about 4 years now I’ve been suffering from severe seasonal allergies. I get it all. Nasal congestion and runny nose so bad that I can’t breathe properly, itchy/watery eyes to the point where once I start itching, I won’t stop until my eye is completely swollen shut or where my skin in the outer corners bleed, sore throat (I’m guessing from the runny nose), itchy throat/ear and itchy nostrils.
Along with this comes sleepless nights due to the symptoms which is undoubtably one of the worst, if not the worst part of all.

I’ve tried almost every over the counter medication and quite a few prescriptions but none work.

and probably more but I don’t remember all…. I also had nasonex, as well, for the nasal congestion which worked a little at first, but then I kept using it and eventually, stopped working

I have severe allergies (by severe, I don’t mean deadly), but constant sneezing, itchy eyes, nasal congestion, itching/tickling of the nose, etc. It just never stops. The only time I’ve ever had relief was for about a year after taking allergy shots. I took those when I was about 12 years old until my dad’s insurance stopped paying.

I don’t have insurance right now, so shots and prescriptions are really out of the question.
