Question by Jackie: Trouble breathing; need allergy relief!?
I have pet danger allergies along with seasonal allergies. My bf has a cat and he smokes. But he makes sure to smoke by the window with a fan to suck the exhaled smoke outside. When I go to his apartment it doesn’t take long for me to have difficulties breathing. The more I go over there, the easier it’s getting to breathe. But he wants to know if there’s anything he can get to help make breathing easier for me. Like a humidifier, de-humidifier, air filters, or anything else not difficult to set up. Also, choices for winter and summer would be great!

We all know about people who are allergic to dogs, but what happens when it turns out that your dog is the one who is allergic? The truth of the matter is that dogs can have allergies just the way that people do and that if your dog has one, it can make them miserable. When your dog is allergic to something, one way he might show it is with hives, which are often known as urticaria. He might also evidence it in a swollen face, which is called angioederm. These signs all point towards your dog having an allergic reaction, though the cause might vary from chemicals, to food to something as innocuous as sunlight!
How can you tell if your dog has an allergy? Hives are one important sign, but because your dog might be rather shaggy, it can be hard to tell for sure. Take some time and examine your dog closely. Hives will manifest as small bump on the skin, and they will often have hair growing over them, making them harder still to see. You might also see that dogs with hives tend to scratch themselves more often than usual. Some dogs are going to have hives that are so itchy that they will scratch until the bleed.

My 11yr old beloved shih tzu has had Flea allergys (well atleast my vet says) He has had minor irritation since i owned him at 1 yr of age. As he ages the worser his allergy becomes. Within the last 5yrs he has been getting depo steriod shots to relief the VERY bad reaction. I keep frontline on him but that dont stop the fleas from biting. He goes everywhere with me. Right now he has a severe breakout. I just washed him with oatmeal shampoo and started him on a skin and coat supplement. The steriods are causing his joins to get very bad and dont want to keep giving him something. He has developed a lump due to the steriods. His is constantly scratching and yelping cause it hurt even after the bath to sooth his skin. his neck and ears are red and a bit swollen and he has hair missing from his butt where he continues to itch. He is a white and groomed short right now and has NO FLEAS. so im not sure why he is scratching. Anything i can do at home to help him?
Thanks for the info guys, Yes i do not want to continue with the steriods. I asked three differant vets about other options and they tell me there no other options. Okay he only eats canned, Due to loss of teath otherwise he gets table scraps and no he isnt fat he is perfect and always been perfect weight. The depo is all they will give me, Other then pill steriods that make him sick. We just moved and the allergys seem worse here. Now where we moved we have had a freeze once a year and during winter NO ALLERGYS. But before the winter was done he needed a depo. The allergy doesnt seem to go away no matter what i do all that helps is the depo. I have tried benadryl recomended by the vet and it doesnt touch it.

I’ve always had bad allergies to tree and grass pollen, but this year they are completely out of control. Normally Zyrtec (10mg) or Benadryl with a combination of eye drops and nasal spray will do the trick, but this year NOTHING seems to help. I’m totally miserable. Are there any stronger OTC medications or even home remedies that can give me some relief? I’m willing to try anything at this point. At the rate I’m going I don’t know if I’ll make it to the end of this season. Really, any help would be greatly appreciated.
