Cause and Symptoms of Nasal Allergy

Nasal allergies are caused by inhaled substances. The lining of the nose reacts to these particles by swelling and increasing mucous production which results in a blocked, runny nose.  Nasal allergies are very common in children, and appear to be getting more common all the time.  In Chinese medicine, acupuncture is often used to treat allergies.  However in the United States the most common treatment is over the counter products such as antihistamines and decongestants.

my daughter coughs during the day but it is alot worse at night she makes her self vomit she coughs so bad sometimes , we give her benadryl at night and that helps a little but what about during the day we tried childrens claritin and that didn’t really work. when she does vomit it is usually flem she was coughing on.

I’ve seen various prescription nasal allergy sprays over the years, such as Flonase, Aquacort, Nasonex, Nasocort, etc. My young daughter was prescribed Nasonex. I had Nasocort at home and asked the doctor if she could use that instead, but he said no, definitely only use Nasonex (which she is). Do all the sprays do the same thing? What’s the difference in the relief they give? Thanks!

Nasonex is used to treat and prevent nasal symptoms such as congestion, sneezing, and runny nose caused by seasonal or year-round allergies. The nasal spray works on symptoms that are caused by pet dander, grass pollen, tree pollen and dust mites. It contains a steroid medication that fights inflammation.

When I chew Dentyne ice, I find it is able to provide temporary nasal congestive relief especially during spring time when allergy season starts. Why is this?

I’m a female, 33, never had asthma in my life, but recently i been having shortness of breaths which causes me to cough and i cant get any relief. the cold weather and cold drinks seems to trigger it. the nurse prescribed me the nasal spray, i havent got it yet. My boyfriend has advair, whats the difference?

Nasal allergy is a quite common illness that everybody can have it. It is caused by the exposure of the individual to the various types of allergens such as pollen, fungus, mold, dust mites, certain foods, latex, animal dander, volatile chemicals and others. When allergens were inhaled into the nasal cavity, it penetrated mucosal membrane and came to contact with blood serum. Individual with Immunoglobulin-A antibody deficiency will easily let the allergens penetrate mucosal barrier because deficiency of Immunoglobulin-A antibody increases the mucosal permeability. Macrophages are the first type of cells that will come in contact with the allergen particles and after processing the allergens; it will pass information about the invasion of the allergen particles into the body to B-lymphocyte cells (one type of the white blood cell). This will stimulate B-lymphocyte cells and cause them start to multiply and transform into plasma cells. Stimulation of the B-lymphocyte is controlled by T-lymphocyte cell (the other type of white blood cell). The plasma cells that have been formed will produce IgE antibodies, which after that bind with the mast cells and basophil cells around nose and cause itching and hypersensitive. Subsequently, histamine chemical will be released from the mast cells when the mast cells started degranulating

Cold/allergy nasal congestion relief?

Hey there!

I just came down today with either super terrible allergies or a cold or sinus infection.
Symptoms:
* TERRIBLE nasal congestion
* Low off and on again fever
* Sinus Headaches
* (sorry, TMI) Really off colored, runny nasal mucus
* Sorta achey
* Symptoms lessen during the day and are horrible at night and in the morning.
* I have canker sores if that means anything.
* There’s an outbreak of a lot of sicknesses in my school.. EVERYONE seems to be sick.
* Lethargic
* Hungry and thirsty a lot.. but when I get a hold of food or water it isn’t very appetizing.
* And a new symptom.. a little tickle in my throat. Not all the time, but it’s there.

Any suggestions how to lessen symptoms? Any idea of what I have? And if it’s a cold.. how to make it not as contagious? I play basketball and I don’t want to get the whole team sick… :/
