Why is my dog itchy ALL the time?

I have a 7-month-old female Australian Shepherd. She eats Natural Balance Limited Ingredients Allergy Formula Venison & Sweet Potato. The only other food she gets is peanut butter for treats. She is current on Revolution flea * heartworm preventative. I never see fleas on her. She was tested negative for mange. I don’t bathe her often, but when I do, I use cool water and all natural oatmeal/aloe shampoo. What could be the cause of her constant scratching and biting? I am so frustrated. Any relief tips? I feel so bad for her.

How to help an itchy puppy!?

I have a 9 month old puppy who’s been itching like crazy for about two months (ironically, when allergy season kicked in). I took her to the vet about one month ago, and he said he was positive it was food allergies. So, I went and bought her some hypo-allergenic food and treats. They have no corn, beef, wheat, soy, etc. – basically none of the good stuff. I changed her food gradually until she’s been totally on it for about two weeks now. Still no progress.

The vet said he wanted to try the food angle before spending upwards to $300 on an allergy test, but I’ve decided to make an emergency call to him for one tomorrow. She’s about to skin herself to death, and this morning, I found that she’s drawn blood under her armpits (or they WOULD be armpits if she were human). It’s just gone too far.

I read that someone washed their itchy dog with pine tar soap for relief of his skin itch. Is this safe? Grandpa’s Pine Tar Soap is used for human skin problems. What is your opinion? I am also going to start him on flax seed oil. Thank you!

He’s very itchy & he often gets short tempered from it. He’s allergic to dust mites, pollen, mold, rice, corn, soy, & egg. I bought a Hepa filter vacuum, encased his bedding to keep dust mites away, run air purifiers, change the furnace filter frequently, use fragrance free detergents, run clothes through a second rinse cycle, use no dryer sheets, keep baths tepid & brief, lotion with Eucerin immediately afterward, & have him wear only cotton clothes. I can honestly say NONE of this has made a difference. He starts Kindergarten in the Fall & I worry about him. How can he concentrate if he’s itchy? Keeping my child drugged on Benadryl indefinitely isn’t an option to me. I currently started him on probitotics with his allergists approval & give him 2 tsp. ground Flaxseed in his cereal every morning. I’m now trying Emu oil on him. I spend all my free time searching for answers. Has anyone found relief from dry eczema? Perhaps a Homeopathic Dr. is my next step. Thank you in advance for any help!

Dog shampoo itchy dry skin ?

I have a 9yr old pitbull with skin allergies, it was never determined what her allergy was, but it has been being controlled by daily Benadryl per the vet, but she still can get itchy and now being winter her skin is very dry, I’ve been using Hypo allergenic Oatmeal shampoo on her and Resincort lotion on her after but she’s still very dry, and I just adopted a corgi who is also very itchy! Not as dry but I did notice even when I saw him at the shelter he was itchy (no fleas or mites) and he’s been licking his paws alot (Im going to assume he has some sort of allergy too!!! He has a vet appointment on tuesday) The oatmeal shampoo doesn’t seem to be working any miracles on him either, I actually work at the vet in the grooming department, and theres three medicated shampoo’s that im looking at to get for the two of them, and was just wondering on other peoples opinion’s on which shampoo out of the three would be the best for the itchy’s and dry skin, There’s Dermal-Soothe, Relief, and Epi Soothe, any opinions?

Itchy skin relief?

My dog is really itchy caused by her dry skin (vet has ruled out other conditions). I have tried the anti-itch spray for hot spots but i think that dries it out more. I have also tried a coat conditioner which didn’t help at all. Benadryl didn’t help either. What else can I use? I would like something that provides immediate relief (i.e. something topical, like a cream or spay) and then potentially long term relief provided by something like a suppliment. She’s an american bulldog that eats canidae and we can’t switch foods because of her allergies. She is miserable so any advice is appreciated. Thanks!
Sorry – and we’ve tried oatmeal and medicated shampoo and it didn’t help :( She had a skin scrap for mites which was negative and shes on revolution which prevents mites as well.
we can’t switch foods because she has food allergies and irritable bowel syndrome. This is the only food she has been able to handle. We aren’t willing to switch again. Sorry.
Rocco – you almost had me convinced til you added the ‘never needs vaccines’. Fresh meat isn’t going to prevent rabies buddy.

My dog has a severe allergy to flea bites. The Vet has suggested different allergy medications to control the itching (benadryl, etc.), we tried a few topical sprays that were recommended by the Vet. Nothing works. The Vet has given her a couple of steriod injections and said it would give her some relief. It didn’t and I don’t want her to have any more steroids. The Vet doesn’t have any more suggestions other than putting her on harsh medications. Frontline only kills the fleas after they bite. It’s my poor dog that concerns me. She is scratching herself raw. Does anyone have any remedies that have worked? I’ve done vinegar rinses, tea tree oil rubs, anti-itch shampoos, the allergy pills, the topical sprays and nothing helps. Also, I was wondering if anyone had a good flea repellent that is safe to put on my dog.
We have tented the house and sprayed the yard for fleas. We live in a rural area and it’s impossible to get rid of all the fleas. I tried Frontline, Advantage and Revolution. The problem is a flea bite allergy and not food allergy.
