Question by Lovely Rita: how do i stop my eyes from itching, allergy relief?!?
My eyes have been itching like crazy the past couple day, i put clear eyes itchy eye relief drops in and it seems to make it bearable but doesn’t provide enough relief. My throat has also been hurting and my nose is snuffly. I take zirtec for allergies but lately it hasn’t been working. What should i do? I can’t take benadryll on a regular basis because it makes me too sleepy.
i have seasonal allergies by the way

Patanol or Pataday are currently the gold standard recommended by opthalmologists for seasonal allergies. Other options include allergic desensitization with injections into your skin on a weekly or monthly basis at an allergist’s office, or avoiding your allergen triggers (pollen, dust, mold, dander, etc.).

How can I get my eyes to stop itching?

My eyes started itching two years ago, both inside the eye and around. I have excema so I think it may be that. My doctor gave me eye drops and cream and although the cream stops my skin from drying out, it doesn’t stop the skin from itching. The problem stopped and my eyes only started itching again two months ago. I went to see a dermatologist, and he said there was no point in an allergy test because it’s nothing in particular from what I told him I had. I’ve since been prescribed antihistamines (allergy relief tablets) but it hasn’t improved. Would buying an itch relief cream for my eye area be effective, if it was a weak concentration one for the delicate eye area, or would that make it worse? I don’t know what else to do…

For about 2 weeks now, my dog has constantly been rubbing her eyes and they are pinkish/red around the skin on some parts of her eye lids. It also seems like her eyes are having some fluid-buildup and it’s making brown gunk or maybe just dried tears around the ends of her eyes on her fur, like we have with “eye-boogers”. I just gave her allergy relief medicine, a small dosage, just like Tendril. Plain allergy relief, no headache relief or anti-inflammatory. If it helps any, she is a full grown 50-60lb Yellow labrador of about two years of age. I had a dog before for 11 years and she never had this problem once as a yellow lab mixed with gray-hound. Are yellow labs prone to having allergies? And is it okay to give her eye-drops or that allergy relief ( Benadryl but not name-brand )? I’ve read that it’s okay but I still want more opinions.

My eyes are so dry they crack and peel. I dont mean dry and itchy eyeballs like form allergies.I mean the skin surrounding my eyes burn and hurt and peel… I moved to alaska recently and it’s extremely dry here.I am from the Tennessee and used to extreme humidity. My eyes are so dry they hurt/burn almost all the time. The rest of the skin on my face is not dry however, it is still somewhat oily. I have used 3 different facial moiturizers. babyoil, vaseline, jergens ultra healing lotion, Aveeno moisturizers, A couple avon products….nothing has worked. I am currently using bio-oil which is the most relief i can get but i cannot wear makeup with this product and have to reapply it throughout the day. My eyes stay swollen and brown/black. I am 20 years old and whatever is wrong with my eyes is making age fast. Can somebody please help me???

Can someone please help me? I have horrible allergies. I’ve never had allergies before. It started late may of last year. I usually get them really bad in the spring and fall. Anyway, they just seem to be getting worse. I have the works: Runny/stuffy nose, cough, sore throat, dry eyes, runny eyes, eye pain, blurry vision, etc…My right eye gives me the most trouble. It leaks constantly! Never a break. I can’t even wear makeup on my eyes anymore. No eyeliner or anything. I can’t even wear cover up under my eye(s) because you can see where the makeup is and where the actual skin is. It looks horrible. On top of that, I have all these other symptoms. Like GI issues, joint/muscle pain, fatigue, etc…I’ve tried Visine (allergy relief), Visine (dry eye relief), Bauch & Lomb, Systane, And some prescription eyedrop from an eye doctor (specialist). Nothing works! Are there any home remedies or something that I can use to make my eye(s) stop running? It’s driving me crazy. Thanks!

I went to an eye specialist on 6/1/07 and all he said was that my eyes were a little inflamed. So he gave me some eye drops and the systane. They’ve gotten way worse since last year. I don’t know what to do anymore. I’m going back again on 6/10/08.

I’m a 40 female with a 17mo baby… this started 4 years ago with a scratched cornea… intermittent waking with burning, but now it’s BOTH eyes, severe burning/gravelly feeling in eyes waking me several times every night. I’ve been using saline and similisan dry eye or allergy eye relief along with homeopathic histamine…nothing seems to be helping and it’s getting worse. Not so much a problem during the day, just when I’m sleeping. I’m guessing it’s allergies OR dry eye, but I’m not sure anymore. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have no insurance so I can’t just go from dr. to dr. until this is resolved. I would prefer not to use prescription drugs, anyway, if possible. I would like to find the cause for this and let my body heal itself.
UPDATE: Thanks to you who offered suggestions, I will try washing the laundry in plain water and see if that helps. I already use allergy-free detergent, but you never know! I also saw my chiropractor today (I’m seeing him for a birth related injury) and he adjusted my atlas/axis. Said it can cause dry eye (among other things) if it’s out of adjustment. Here’s hoping it works!

help with redness of eyes?

In the last month or so I have noticed that the tiny blood vessels in my eyes seem to be more noticeable, more so in my right eye. The whites of my eyes seem tinged with red. I am getting about 7 to 8 hours of sleep a night. It feels as though there is something in my right eye that is irritating it, but I don’t see anything. Sometimes I have a little bit sticky sleep in my eyes, but even after I get that out, my eyes seem red as though irritated. I bought some Visine dry relief, but an hour or so later my right eye still feels irritated and red.

Any ideas what it could be or what is triggering this feeling? I don’t have any allergies at all, but I suppose it is possible to develop one, but I doubt that. I wonder if I need to sleep more or something. What over-the-counter products could I try that might work better in restoring the natural healthy white look to my eyes?

i went to bed feeling good and then i woke up with my eyes stuck together. so i went to the bathroom and put water to clean them up and when i finally could open my eyes they were red and swollen…my eyes were stuck my this green stuff and its also sticky. i’ve been like that since Friday and its monday already..please help me my eyes hurt and are swollen. i went to wal-mart to buy eye drop thingy and i bough visine-A eye allergy relief eye drops, once i put tht in a few mins. later my eyes burn when i blink. so once again please help me cause i don’t know what to do. also just for information i have a sheltie dog. since my cousins slept over for three days he’s been inside cuz they like him. but he’s an outside dog. they came tuesday and left thursday. he’s outside once again

I have been taking loratadine 10 mg and Tylenol severe sinus congestion with no relief. I am still going with the idea that it’s an allergy rather than a cold because my mucus is clear and I’m sneezing a lot. I have a trip in two weeks and want this gone!!

I have all kinds of cats. Recently they are getting allergies, of: Sneezing, Runny nose, Watery Eyes. Like Cold Symptoms, we get.
I need some suggestions, or available over counter relief for them. That I can buy at any dept. or drug store.. Since my Vet. is full till next week. I want to keep them from being so miserable. Till I can get them into the Vet. So I need to know if any avail. that can buy over the counter medicine of some sort that isn’t harmful.
