My youngest son has suffered from a myriad of allergies since he was just months old.

Mikey broke out in a scaly rash on his head at just about four months old. We thought it might be regular old cradle-cap, but brushing it out just made it worse. His pediatrician said that it was actually eczema, and with his little hands, my baby would claw at it until it bled.

My boyfriend has asthma and he is most allergic to cats (and I just happen to own a cat). I’ve tried keeping the windows open all day, vacuuming consistently, keeping the cat out of my room, but there just isn’t any relief for him, he still wheezes, sneezes and gets incredibly congested…..

He stays in my room whenever he comes over and I try my best to change my clothes after I’ve touched the cat before I have any contact with him or things in my room. Getting rid of the cat just really isn’t an option, but I’m curious if anyone has any pointers. Like does the air purifiers out there work? Can he get some kind of allergy shots? etc…

Asthma Vs. Post Nasal drip in children?

My 7 year old daughter has always had a terrible cough with viruses (starting from about age 2). She has never wheezed to my knowledge and we’ve always treated her for asthma as instructed by her Dr’s. She has had wheeze and low oxygen when she had a chest cold once (heard by Dr.) and she has also had pneumonia. When she gets an infection following a virus her cough is worse. It’s worse at night. Even with Qvar use (sometimes for months at a time) she comes down with this cough. I also give her Albuterol and she gets a lot of steam baths when she is coughing. She’s had relief when put on prednisone and from (the few occassions she’s been Rx’d) codiene cough syrup.
She also constantly battles eczema.
For the last few years I feel like I have been unable to keep her “asthma” under control, like I don’t even feel the meds are helping that much (I only see SOME changes when given).
Even with breathing treatments in the ER. Shouldn’t all these things work??? Shouldn’t she be able to function through a virus better?

So, she is sick now and I took her to the Dr. again yesterday and they say her lungs sound good (which is what I usually hear despite the cough till she throws up routine she goes though). The Dr. we saw thinks this coughing is Post Nasal Drip. I’ve been reading up on it and that sounds a lot like what she has. I have been giving her benadryl (never done this before). Whenever I ask her if her chest hurts she says no…my throat tickles and she complains of stomach aches (which I thought was being sore from coughing). Now she says she feels a squiggling down her throat. With Benadryl she made it through the night and only coughed a few times last night.

This is an excellent and important question that many people ask about natural asthma and allergy treatments. There are several reasons why doctors may not know or even if they do know, why they won’t tell you.

One reason your doctor may be unaware of an effective, natural drug-free asthma and allergy treatment is that they generally are very busy and simply don’t have the time to do the research about it. The main reason, is that many traditional doctors don’t believe in natural treatments and think that drugs are the only acceptable routes to take. The reality is drug companies often fund medical schools. These huge multi-national drug companies spend billions of dollars a year to create and promote drugs that they want doctors to prescribe and you to keep using. They spend multi-millions on advertising and funding medical schools to convince doctors and the public that drugs are the best and only solution to asthma and allergies. They will even go to great lengths to discredit natural practitioners and natural treatments. The bottom line is money: they would like you to continue to buy their expensive drugs and doctors want you to continue visiting them or they would both be out of business. The sad part is these drugs are expensive, usually don’t work very well since they only mask the asthma or allergy symptoms, even worse, they have dangerous side effects. If you currently take asthma drugs, knowing what the side effects are is important. For a listing and description of asthma drug side effects caused by the drugs you may be taking please see:

That cute little kitten or lovable dog that your child (or partner) can’t live without could be making them very sick. Sadly, as much as we love them, cats and dogs are often major asthma triggers for asthma sufferers and can send some to the emergency room. Contrary to what many people believe, it is the dander (dry flakes of skin), not the hair of the animal that actually is the cause of the problem. Your pet’s dander is shed continuously, but it is so small that it’s difficult to see. The dander is easily airborne and sticks readily to fibers- therefore it goes everywhere and gets on just about everything. If you have rugs and your pet comes inside the house, they are certainly full of it, so is your furniture and beds if they are allowed on them. If you cuddle or play with your pet, it’s all over your clothing too. However, this doesn’t mean that you have to get rid of Fido or Garfield.

There are a number of alternatives that you can take. Steam cleaning rugs and furniture in your home will help to remove the dander. Using a HEPA vacuum cleaner is also good. If possible, getting rid of rugs is the best solution. Make sure your pet stays out of the asthma sufferer’s bedroom. Wash all bedding, floors and walls to remove the dander. Then use a HEPA air purifier at night in the bedroom with the door closed.

Breathe Easy: Some Asthma Relief Tips

Asthma is the seventh-ranked chronic health condition in the United States and the leading chronic illness of children. It is a chronic inflammatory disease that makes airways (bronchial tubes) particularly sensitive to irritants.

During an asthma attack, tightening of the smooth muscles around the bronchial tubes causes them to become inflamed, narrow inside, and produce excess mucus. This makes it difficult for air to pass in and out of the lungs and decreases the oxygen levels in the blood. A person suffering from an asthma attack has a sensation similar to drowning.

Asthma relief naturally means to avoid suffering from its causes, such as the attacks that you may have in early childhood, or in adulthood. Common factors of suffering from asthma are people who are around secondhand smoke, live in urban areas, or have numerous allergies.

Asthma is a respiratory disease and is very common. It attacks the bronchial tubes and the trachea that causes the airways to narrow and thus decreases the amount of air reaching the lungs. As a result of this breathing becomes difficult. Although asthma is generally found in younger children and young adults but it can attack to people of all ages. Some of the common symptoms of asthma are coughing, wheezing, tight chest and facing difficulty in breathing.

Many of us are looking for natural asthma relief because we realize the difficulty that going to a doctor can give to us.  Not that a doctor is unable to give us something that will help to cure some of the symptoms that we are experiencing but the unfortunate thing is that there is no medical cure for the asthma itself.

While it is important to make sure that you have something that is going to treat you if you should happen to have a severe asthma attack, looking for a natural cure is something that many of us desire.  After all, curing our asthma  naturally is the only way to get rid of the actual problem behind the asthma, not merely overcoming the symptoms.
