I have a severe buring sensation in my eyes, waking me up every night. getting worse… help!?
I’m a 40 female with a 17mo baby… this started 4 years ago with a scratched cornea… intermittent waking with burning, but now it’s BOTH eyes, severe burning/gravelly feeling in eyes waking me several times every night. I’ve been using saline and similisan dry eye or allergy eye relief along with homeopathic histamine…nothing seems to be helping and it’s getting worse. Not so much a problem during the day, just when I’m sleeping. I’m guessing it’s allergies OR dry eye, but I’m not sure anymore. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have no insurance so I can’t just go from dr. to dr. until this is resolved. I would prefer not to use prescription drugs, anyway, if possible. I would like to find the cause for this and let my body heal itself.
UPDATE: Thanks to you who offered suggestions, I will try washing the laundry in plain water and see if that helps. I already use allergy-free detergent, but you never know! I also saw my chiropractor today (I’m seeing him for a birth related injury) and he adjusted my atlas/axis. Said it can cause dry eye (among other things) if it’s out of adjustment. Here’s hoping it works!

go to the doctor why are you asking unlicensed people on Yahoo Answers!
I know you say you don’t have insurance but you really do have to be careful when it comes to your eyes! I would think if it were dry eye,it would bother you during the day as well.It could be allergy but that would bother you during the day too.Unless you aren’t in your bedroom during the day and it is something in that room you are allergic to? Your pillow comes to mind. That being said:
My mom used to get calcium deposits in her eyes and she said it felt like sand was in her eyes.I’m not sure if that’s the feeling you describe. The eye doctor gave her a cream,I’m not sure of the spelling but it sounds like,laca-lube.It looked almost clear, like Vaseline and it came in a little tube, like a travel size tooth paste.I don’t know if it was over the counter or prescription because he just gave it to her after her examination.Maybe the pharmacist could help you.
I already suggested it could be allergy maybe to her pillow and talking to the pharmacist. IF she could go to an eye Doctor,he would see if she had calcium deposits,he would not rely on process of elimination!
I can’t believe the people who ignore your lack of insurance and just reply “go to the doctor”. What good is a reply like that? Don’t you think if she could, she would? Sheesh.
Anyway………..detective work…..process of elimination. What a doctor would do ANYWAY. The fact that it only happens at night seems to be signficant. What’s different about night………could it be an allergic to reaction to something in that room only, or something you come closer to at night. You lay on a pillow. Could be the only time your eyes get THAT close to something you’ve laundered, could it be a chemical in the laundry process? Perhaps you could try washing all bedding in plain water a couple of times to get it “pure”, and see if there’s any change.
I see you are a person who tries to use natural remedies, but just as a test, for process of elimination try taking good old fashioned Benadryl before bed, see if it makes any difference.
recurrent epithelial erosions , you need a good ophthalmologist
