Question by ann.maxter: Has Anyone Found A Good Air-Purifier For Pet Allergens?
After having dogs for 25yrs, I have just recently developed SEVERE allergies to pets. Especially in the winter, when the windows are closed, it feels like I have two wine corks up my nose and I have to breathe through my mouth…the ENTIRE winter season! I am looking for a large air-purifier to keep next to their dog beds, but something that won’t blow air on them.

Has anyone with severe pet allergies found a good air-purifier that has actually given them noticeable relief in their house? Not just with the smell of the dogs, but something that has worked well enough to cut down on sneezing and stuffy nose?

Allergy Relief: Alleviating Allergy Symptoms

Article by Tommy Groman

Runny nose, irritating cough, itching, sneezing, watery eyes, and skin rashes… these are allergy symptoms, which may vary tremendously based on the person. In some cases, a person with allergy experiences only one of these symptoms but there are also others who experience a combination of these. When you have allergy, your normal activities are greatly interrupted. Allergy cannot be cured but allergy relief is available. Anti-histamines are allergy medications that you can readily find in pharmacies in the form of nose drops, nasal sprays, and tablets to relieve the symptoms that come with allergy. Anti-histamines, which you can get on prescription or over the counter, block the substances that cause itching, sneezing, and nasal congestion. Since they cause you to feel sleepy, there are now non-drowsy formulations that you can take so that you can still function in your work effectively in case your situation does not allow you to stay at home and rest.

Some people do not wait for an allergic reaction to happen before they do something to stop their allergies. You can find allergy medications that allow you to take them prior your exposure to allergens, that is if you know the triggers of your attack. For example, if you know that you are allergic to shrimp but have an insatiable desire to eat just one piece, you can take your anti-histamine an hour or two before you eat some. You should take the anti-histamine at least an hour before eating shrimp to allow it to circulate in your system, thus be more effective in combating the symptoms of allergy. Check first the label of the medicine or ask your doctor to make sure that it is all right to drink it ahead of time.

Using At Home Remedies For Quick Allergy Relief

Article by Tommy Groman

Your home is a paradise, the best place you can be. It is your sanctuary, your place of refuge. But at times, it can also get you down, especially when you are allergic to it. Common allergens like dust, pollen, pet dander and molds can be right inside your home. And since it is not possible for you to keep out of the house, then you should be aware of what you have to do to protect yourself. Your problems with allergies can be managed using an approach consisting of two aspects – applying remedy to the symptoms and identifying the root of the allergic reaction so you can prevent your exposure to it. To determine the main cause of the allergy, you have to take away all the potential allergens and check if your reactions go and then expose yourself to each suspect and see if the reaction comes back. When the allergen has been singled out, try to avoid it. When it comes to the treatment of the symptoms, you can take the doctor’s prescription or you can use some home remedies.

One of the most potent natural treatments for allergy is honey. Raw honey can be taken in to increase the body’s resistance and keep infections and allergies away. Another means of alleviating the suffering of allergic people is to drink a 1 to 2 cups of green tea. Green tea has natural antihistamine that offers fast allergy relief. You can also make use of ginger which has natural antihistamine and decongestant properties. Fresh pieces of ginger can be incorporated in stir fry recipes or can be combined in your tea drink. Similarly, lime can be a potent treatment to allergy. This can be done by squeezing half a lime in a glass of lukewarm water, then sweetening the drink with honey. You can take it first thing in the morning everyday, for several months. But then again, this is not recommended for people with allergy to citrus fruits. Vegetable juices like 500 ml of carrot juice can also help alleviate allergic symptoms.

Tips for allergy relief?

Question by Mike: Tips for allergy relief?
My whole life I’ve had horrible allergies. Almost every day I have to blow my nose constantly and it’s really embarrassing at school and other peoples houses. In summer and spring I can’t even step outdoors without mucus pouring out of my nose non stop. I also have asthma and allergy-induced asthma, which basically means sometimes allergies can effect me so badly that I have a hard time breathing, or if I start breathing hard my allergies will act up.

I take Zyrtec and have tried other allergies pills, and they help a little but make me so tired and light headed they almost aren’t even worth it. I have also tried allergy shots but they gave me a severe reaction called anaphylaxis so I had to give them up.
