In the Bible, the Dead Sea is known as the “Eastern Sea” or the “Sea of the Arava”. The ancient Greeks and Romans called it “Mare Asphaltitus”, meaning the “Clay Sea”, due to the patches of clay, or asphalt floating on its surface. Later on, since life in this body of water was deemed impossible, it was dubbed the “Dead Sea”, and this term was adopted by various European languages. Mosaics from the Byzantine era depict fish swimming toward the Dead Sea from the Jordan River and rushing to turn back and flee toward the north, to the fresh water sources.
The Dead Sea region offers a rare combination of nature sites, history and unique healing centers, each of which has the potential to inspire autonomous tourism development. The Dead Sea, at approximately 417 meters below sea level, is the lowest point on the surface of the earth. It is a remnant of the ancient “Lake Lisan”, the body of water which once extended from the north of the Sea of Galilee to Hazeva in the Arava.

You know how they make you feel (runny nose, itchy eyes, tired and cranky), but what are allergies? An allergy is your immune system’s reaction to certain plants, animals, and even foods. When your immune system confuses something in your environment (the allergen) with a bacteria or virus that could make you sick, it attacks! The allergy symptoms you experience are your body’s way of handling your immune systems over jealousness in protecting your body from harm.
The most common allergic reaction people experience are sneezing and wheezing. It is usually caused by these common allergens:
Allergies are becoming more and more of a hot topic these days, especially food allergies. Just about any type of food you can think of can be an allergen, from some of the most feared, peanut and seafood, to some of the lesser known, broccoli and bananas. From a dairy allergy, one of the fastest growing allergies, to a gluten allergy, one of the most widely recognized by food manufacturers, there’s no denying food allergies are quickly becoming an epidemic in this country. Then there’s soy, a food that holds a place on the list of the 8 most common food allergies, yet it doesn’t seem to receive nearly as much attention as it should. A food that in some way shape or form is in nearly all prepackaged processed foods, despite it’s increasingly growing numbers of those being diagnosed. Just like the late Rodney Daingerfield, “this allergy gets no respect”, but why?
For starters look what it’s up against. Name one other allergen that’s marketed as some sort of wonder food by nutritionists and advertisers alike. It’s even marked as a healthy replacement for another popular allergen, dairy, despite being a very serious allergen in it’s own right. There are hundreds of products marketed as “gluten free”, yet I can count all those marketed as “soy free” on one hand. The soy industry is so enormous and profitable, and its product so widely used for so many different applications, that only one other food can challenge it as being more diversely used; corn.
