Signs your Pet May Have Allergies

Depending on the type of allergy, your pet may exhibit different symptoms. Although pets occasionally exhibit watery eyes and some sneezing, the most common reaction is scratching. Constant scratching may lead to raised infected welts, open sores, and loss of hair. Ear infections are also common in dogs with allergies.

Allergies – Types of Allergies

Allergies are abnormal immune system reactions to things that are typically harmless to most people. When you’re allergic to something, your immune system mistakenly believes that this substance is harmful to your body. (Substances that cause allergic reactions, such as certain foods, dust, plant pollen, or medicines, are known as allergens.) In an attempt to protect the body, the immune system produces IgE antibodies to that allergen. Those antibodies then cause certain cells in the body to release chemicals into the bloodstream, one of which is histamine (pronounced: his-tuh-meen).

Allergy Treatment And Care Guide

People face some type of allergy to all sorts of things, this may include environmental allergens, odors, fumes, food, and cigarette smoke just to name a few. Allergy treatment and testing is required when symptoms become uncomfortable and occur on a daily basis. With food allergies and small children, the process of elimination is the best way to determine which food is causing the allergic reaction. Allergy testing methods such as skin testing and blood testing are helpful, but some people may respond better to one than the other. Blood testing is particularly helpful in detecting food allergies, but if you know you’re allergic to a certain food, wouldn’t you just not eat it?

Environmental allergies are a little trickier amongst the different types of allergies. There are a number of possible triggers like weeds, trees, pollens, grasses, dust, dust mites, molds, pet dander, chemical fumes, and cigarette smoke that are all popular offenders. Skin allergy testing is a popular method that is used to diagnose different types of allergies that are severe enough to warrant this approach. Allergy treatment can then be prescribed based on the level of reaction to certain irritants. Seeking assistance from a specialist is not required for everyone with allergies. You can find quite a number of over-the-counter medications that are effective in treating symptoms, but for cases where medications don’t work one would need to consult a professional. There are a number of times where allergies are present with other conditions such as eczema and asthma, and should be assessed in conjunction to allergy treatment as they all go simultaneously. As a result of treating allergies, related conditions will either resolve themselves or lessen considerably as allergy treatment progresses.

I have seasonal allergies and with the pollen count being so high, my ears are totally plugged and it’s getting painful. I’ve tried Sudafed and Ibuprofen and neither are giving much relief. Any other suggestions???

My dog is allergic to grass. . .?

We took him to the vet where he was diagnosed with allergies to grass. The vet told me that we should keep him off the grass at all times, but that’s a little unreasonable since he is a hound and ONLY will relieve himself on grass (anyone with a hound knows how picky they are about where they go). We’re running out of the prednisone that the vet prescribed and he won’t prescribe any more because it is only temp. relief for the allergies. Does anyone know of something I can give my dog (preferably natural remedies) that will help with his allergies? I don’t want to see him suffering again.
I found this, has anyone had any success with it?

Hay fever is a common and often debilitating condition which affects millions of people annually. And grass pollen is high on the list of triggers that can cause problems.

The arrival of pollen in your area is based on climate. Knowing the answers will help you cope effectively with potential hay fever issues whenever the pollen arrives where you live.

What is Hay Fever? It is a pollen allergy that is triggered by tree, grass or weed pollen. Once inhaled, the body reacts with a runny nose, sneezing, congestion, watery eyes and other symptoms which can make the allergy sufferer so miserable. Reacting with these symptoms is commonly referred to as allergic rhinitis.

When you have indoor allergies to dust, mold and pet dander, you come into contact with allergy irritants all year round.  This contact can be the highest in your bedroom, where you come to rest and rejuvenate, but may end up worsening allergy symptoms. The high levels of allergens found in your bedroom can affect your health, and the path to a healthier night’s sleep is through reducing your exposure to allergens and therefore preventing allergy symptoms.  While steps should be taken throughout the home to reduce allergens, start in the bedroom as you spend the most time here.   When you take these allergy relief steps, you’ll be on your way to a healthier home and a healthier night’s sleep.

Can I use eye drops when I have a stye?

I have a stye in my upper eyelid. Can I use eyedrops such as visine for dry eyes and visine allergy relief in that eye? Or is that not good for it?
